Teaching Tip
Semester Evaluation Posted on Jan 27 2010 8:37AM
Do you ask your students to evaluate the past semester? At the halfway mark in the academic year, its helpful to you if you can elicit feedback from your audience – i.e. the students.
You can make a personal evaluation tailored to your teaching style. Ask specific questions that you want to know about your teaching performance, the units that you have presented, homework options, tests, and your availability for extra help. You can use a short answer format or a scale (1-4), or a frequency based format ( always, sometimes, hardly ever, never).
You can use the data that you collect to initiate a discussion with your class about some options for second semester. Hopefully, the comments will be helpful to you, so that you can evaluate your teaching style as it interfaces with your students learning style.
